Engineered Oak & Wood Flooring

Genuine oak with a stable engineered core. Beautiful, natural and built to last a lifetime.

There is nothing quite like the warmth and natural character of real oak. Engineered oak gives you a genuine hardwood surface on a stable, multi-layer core, so you get all the beauty of a solid wood floor with far greater resistance to the movement that changes in temperature and humidity can cause.

Why engineered rather than solid?

Solid wood naturally expands and contracts with the seasons, which can lead to gaps, cupping or lifting. Engineered boards are constructed from cross-layered plies or a hardwood core topped with a real oak wear layer. That construction makes them far more dimensionally stable, so they are suitable for more rooms and are generally compatible with underfloor heating.

Because the top layer is real wood, many engineered boards can also be sanded and refinished during their lifetime, giving them a very long life.

Installation methods

Depending on your subfloor and the product, we install engineered oak fully bonded with a flexible wood-floor adhesive, secret-nailed to timber subfloors, or floated over a suitable underlay. We acclimatise boards where required, check moisture levels in concrete subfloors, and leave the correct expansion gaps hidden neatly beneath skirting or beading.

Engineered oak is also available in herringbone and chevron formats for a classic parquet look, which we can fit with or without a border.

A finish to be proud of

From scribing boards tightly to skirting and door architraves to fitting matching stair nosings and thresholds, we take care over every detail so your wood floor looks as good up close as it does from across the room.

Questions

Engineered Oak: FAQs

Can engineered oak go in a kitchen?

It can, with sensible care. Engineered oak copes much better than solid wood with changes in humidity, but standing water should always be wiped up promptly. For very wet areas we would usually recommend LVT instead.
