At Richardson Flooring we believe any design is possible with flooring. Herringbone and chevron patterns, contrasting borders, feature inlays, logos and completely one-off hand-cut designs are where real craftsmanship shows, and they are some of our favourite projects to work on.
Herringbone and chevron
Herringbone is a timeless pattern that adds movement, character and a sense of luxury to any room. Its close cousin, chevron, gives a crisper, more contemporary zig-zag. Both look simple when finished, but they demand precise setting-out. The pattern has to run true down the centre of the room, line up with focal points such as fireplaces and doorways, and finish evenly at every wall.
We take the time to plan each layout before a single block is laid, setting out from carefully established centre lines so the pattern is perfectly balanced. We fit herringbone and chevron in LVT and engineered wood, with or without a perimeter border.
Borders, feature strips and inlays
A border can frame a room beautifully and is a classic way to finish a herringbone floor. Thin design strips between planks or tiles can add definition and a bespoke, high-end feel, and contrasting inlays can mark out a dining area, an entrance or a reception space.
We can mix colours and materials within the same floor, combining wood-effect and stone-effect LVT for example, to create zones and add interest without changing floor heights.
Truly bespoke, hand-cut designs
For something completely unique we can hand-cut one-off designs: company logos in a reception floor, compass roses, geometric patterns, curved transitions between materials or custom motifs for a feature room. If you have a specific design in mind, we will work with you to make it a reality. We are always up for a challenge.
We will talk through your ideas, advise on what will work best with your chosen materials, and plan the design carefully before cutting begins, so the finished floor matches your vision exactly.
