Safety flooring is a specialist discipline. Done properly, it creates a slip-resistant, watertight and easy-to-clean surface that protects people and meets the demands of busy, regulated environments. Cap and cove installation, where the flooring is formed up the wall to create a seamless skirting, is one of our specialities.
What is safety flooring?
Safety flooring is a slip-resistant vinyl designed to maintain grip even when wet or contaminated. It is the floor of choice wherever water, grease or spills are a risk: commercial kitchens, wet rooms, changing rooms, bathrooms in care homes, healthcare settings, schools and food-preparation areas.
Products are rated for slip resistance and the right choice depends on the environment, for example barefoot wet areas versus shod commercial kitchens. We can help you choose a product that is appropriate for how the space will be used.
Cap and cove: seamless, hygienic skirting
In a cap and cove installation, the flooring is turned up the wall over a cove former to create a smooth, curved junction between floor and wall, then finished with a capping strip. This removes the right-angled corner where dirt and bacteria collect, and creates a continuous, watertight tank that is quick and easy to clean.
Forming internal and external corners neatly is a skill that takes years to master. Our cove work is cleanly formed, tightly fitted and finished to a professional standard, because in a hygienic environment the details really matter.
Hot-welded seams
Joints in safety flooring are routed and hot-welded with a matching or contrasting weld rod, fusing the sheets together to make the floor completely impervious. Welded seams prevent water penetrating beneath the floor and stop dirt collecting in the joints, which is essential in kitchens, wet rooms and clinical spaces.
Wet rooms and accessible bathrooms
We install safety flooring in domestic and commercial wet rooms and accessible bathrooms, forming the floor to falls and integrating it with drainage outlets to create a fully sealed, level-access space. It is a practical and safe solution for anyone with mobility needs and is widely used in adapted homes, care homes and assisted living.
